About Puck Hogenboom
As a European tourist, traveling through the South West of the USA, I first came upon Santa Fe in the year 2000.
Immediately I was intrigued by the Native American art, the pottery in particular. Learning more about it made me end up in school for three years to learn the craft. I've been 'into clay' ever since and can't imagine myself ever being 'out' of it.

Although I learned to throw on the wheel, my main interest is in handbuilding (coiling) my pieces. I have made several pieces inspired by the Native Americans using their methods and styles. As the Natives do, I prefer polishing as opposed to glazing. My latest adventure was a stay in the Hopi reservation at the house of a well-known potter to learn her techniques.
Just as I have a passion for traveling into the unknown, I also wander down several paths the ceramic art is offering. I like to do different styles and make different shapes and designs. It's like an ongoing journey, never knowing where it will take me.

The plasticity of clay gives me the feeling of being in control of the pieces I make, only to find out that the clay has a 'mind' of its own. I can only influence the process so far, after which the clay takes over. It helps me balance my view of life....

And BTW, after retirement in 2011, my husband and I moved to the USA. We now live a little south of Santa Fe.
The spell never left us.
